BAND
OUT FOR FUN
INTRODUCTION
Your
school band is going to be performing in a number of Canadian cities.
While they are visiting these different cities they would like to go to
the theatre to see a concert or a play.
TASK
Organize
a trip to the theatre for the band. Choose a show for them to see and
suggest possible seating arrangements. After creating at least 3 seating
arrangements, choose the seating arrangement you think is best for the
band and give your reasons why. Here is some information you need to make
the arrangements.
The travelling band has 60 people in it.
The band wants to sits in rows and columns.
Each row must have the same number of band members.
You cannot have rows with more than 10 band members.
The entire group does not have to sit together.
THE PROCESS
- Explore the following websites. Look
at the different lists of shows and choose one that you think would
be interesting for the band to see.

- Choose
the seating plan that matches the theatre you have chosen. Print the
plan.

- Take
a look at your seating plan. Use the seats to create at least 3 arrays
to fit the band members into the audience. Don't forget the information
in the Task section! If the theatre you have chosen has many seating
areas, you can focus on 1 or 2 areas.

Write the fact family for each of your arrays.
- Choose
the seating arrangement you think would be best for the band. Explain
why you chose it in your own words. Using math language, explain how
the fact family or families describe it.
