Lesson 5 - Communicate About Transformations

To encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning about Communicate about Transformations, here are some games and interactive activities they can do on their own or in pairs.

Instructions for Use

Quiltmaker is an interactive program that allows students to design a quilt by repeating, rotating, and reflecting the same pattern.

To use Quiltmaker, click on the 'Editor' button and click on shapes in the Quiltmaker workspace. Change the colour by clicking on the colour palettes. Click the 'Rotate', 'Reflect' or 'Repeat' buttons to extend the pattern in the quilt. Click the 'Erase' to start over. Click 'Index' to show different patterns.

The Diamond 16 Puzzle lets students practice transformations.

To use The Diamond 16 Puzzle, click on a row, then click on another row you want to move it to. Do the same for columns and quadrants.
